Your original file is deleted from our servers immediately after redaction completes. The redacted version is deleted immediately after you download it. If you never return to download it, a safety-net cleanup removes it within 30 minutes. We never retain your documents beyond this short window.

No. Your original file is deleted immediately after redaction. The redacted output is deleted immediately after you download it (or within 30 minutes as a safety-net if you never return to download). No document content is permanently retained. The PII mapping used during redaction is never persisted.

How are placeholders formatted?

PII is replaced with semantic codes like [PERSON_1], [SSN_1], [EMAIL_1], [ADDRESS_1]. Each unique value gets a numbered code, so repeated references to the same person or address use the same placeholder throughout the document.

Can I undo the redaction?

No. The redacted document replaces PII permanently. Make sure to keep your original file before uploading.

What file formats are supported?

PDF (.pdf) and Word (.docx). The redacted file is returned in the same format you upload.

What languages are supported?

The PII Redaction Tool is optimized for English documents. Non-English PII may not be fully detected.

How accurate is the PII detection?

The PII Redaction Tool uses multiple detection layers — combining AI models with pattern matchers. While this multi-layer approach provides broad coverage, detection is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate. Some entity types may go undetected in non-English text, unusual formats, or highly domain-specific content. False positives (non-PII flagged as PII) and false negatives (actual PII missed) can occur. You must review the redacted output before distributing it. The PII Redaction Tool is a supplementary tool — it does not replace manual review by a qualified professional.
